School of Medicine:

History

It was back in 1372 (1993) that negotiations with the ministry of hygiene and treatment were conducted on the foundation of a faculty of medicine in Dezful. Since then Dezful School of Medicine entrance for medical students was inserted in Iran University Entrance Examination leaflet. Due to the lack of required infrastructure and educational spaces, the admitted students for this entrance were educated in the Medical Sciences University of Ahwaz. Years passed under these circumstances; however, as the above mentioned problems were not solved, this share of entrance for Dezful School of Medicine was cancelled.

Nevertheless, Dezful School of Medicine and Faculty of Emergency Medical Services were both founded in 1386 (2007). By this time, this faculty began its work by the presence of 60 students, headed by DR. Moeen and educational assistance of Dr. Qasemzadeh along with three personnel members. After a while, Mrs. Moeen Mosavi, one of the faculty members of nursing and obstetrics department in the Medical Sciences University of Ahwaz, shouldered the responsibility of this faculty.

In 1388 (2009), School of Medicine was headed by Dr. Saemi and carried on its educational contributions. By this time, the ministry of hygiene and treatment permitted the education in the fields of nursing, laboratory sciences, and surgical technology anesthesia under the supervision of the Jundishapoor Medical Sciences University of Ahwaz. There were 10 personnel members and five fixed faculty members; however, some professors were also invited form the Jundishapoor Medical Sciences University of Ahwaz to commute to Dezful for required courses. In this year, 104 students were admitted to the university. The Medical School was on a constant trend of growth. By the time president Ahmadinejad travelled to Dezful, city authorities managed to negotiate with him on the issues related to the expansion of medical school to the University of Medical Sciences. However, these efforts and negotiations blossomed when in 1391 Dr. Vahideh Dastjerdi, the contemporary minister of hygiene and treatment, signed the permission of the establishment of Dezful School of Medical Sciences after her negotiations with Dezful parliament member. In fact, since 1391 Dezful School of Medical Sciences began to function independent of Jundishapoor Medical Sciences University of Ahwaz. In 1391, 28 students were admitted to enter this university. Next, in 1392, this faculty was allowed to be promoted to the level of a university and it was by then that Dezful University of Medical Sciences (DUMS) began to be after the permission of launching the department for surgical technology. Since then, this university encompasses, nursing, paramedical, and medical faculties.
